Publisher's Summary: A group of five young adults who served time on Rikers Island decided they had a story to tell. For eight months, they worked side by side with Sound Portraits producers Stacy Abramson and Susan Burton to create short documentaries about their lives. Each features an introduction by Roseie Perez.Ariel "Asun" Corporan, 21. Hometown: Bronx, NY. Ariel does outreach on Rikers Island through Friends of Island Academy and works at q, a bar in SoHo. He is a full-time dad to his six-month-old son, Dei-Jean. Yovani Whyte, 20. Hometown: Brooklyn, NY. Yovani recently finished an internship at Black Entertainment Television and is now a peer educator at Friends of Island Academy. Bernard Skelton, 24. Hometown: Bronx, NY. Bernard has been a Big Brother to kids with developmental delays in Queens and is now a peer educator at Friends of Island Academy. Most importantly, though, he is a family man, dedicated to his girlfriend, Aliyah, and three-year-old son, Tyreik. Angie Sanabria, 18. Hometown: Manhattan, NY. Angie works at McDonald's and recently auditioned for an R&B group in Queens. Andre "Redd" Vaughn, 21. Hometown: Bronx, NY. Andre is a peer educator at Friends of Island Academy.
