He is the editor of What Good Are Intellectuals: 44 Writers Share their Thoughts, and the writer and director of the documentary films Bosna! and Le Jour et la Nuit. Simon Schama has been contributing to The New Yorker since 1994. His 1995 essays on Mondrian, Rembrandt, and the "Haute Couture" show at the Metropolitan Museum won the National Magazine Award for Essays and Criticism. A collection of his New Yorker essays on art, Hang-Ups, will be published in November in the U.K. His many other books include Landscape and Memory, and the trilogy A History of Britain. He is a Professor at Columbia University. Anna Deavere Smith was nominated for two 1994 Tony Awards for her one-woman play Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992, based on the aftermath of the Rodney King beating. Her one-woman play Fires in the Mirror was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1993. She is also the author of Talk to Me: Listening Between the Lines and currently teaches at New York University. |
